If, as people said, I could also run the resulting VM in Linux, then I would have that additional level of protection against problems in Windows 10. The idea was that I could run that software on Windows 7, in the VM guest system, even if it wouldn’t run in the Win10 host. The situation provoking this effort was that recent Windows 10 updates apparently made Windows 10 unable to run certain software that I used frequently.
